“Breathtakingly camp.”
It is certainly a flying visit, but the arrival of Melbourne's First Head Acrobats with their show GODZ is one not to have missed – camp as chloe, and able to perform feats of balance that take the breath away Apollo, Dionysus, Cupid and Hercules have fallen foul of Zeus and are holding a party. What they get up to has to be seen to be believed, but they can climb up a ladder and climb back down the other side with the ladder standing erect, balance on a pile of chairs balanced on one another, do things with a whip to candles held by two of their number that are astonishing, dangle from a trapeze holding on with one hand, and as for what they get up to when three of them pose with only a brass tray to preserve their modesty while the fourth dusts them down with what might be a feather duster the less said the better. It is a no names, no packdrill night so who plays the gods I do not know but one is as good as the other and they are good at reacting with the audience. What the point of it all is anybodys guess but if this is what they can do then let them do it because it is certainly well worth watching – after falling out with Zeaus there is a side trip to Hades just to make what they get up to even more amazing. As well as no names there is no programme so who directed it is a mystery but it hardly matters not knowing. The show is the thing.
