“Virgins, vegans & vaginas.”
There are horses for courses and while Isabel Renner is very funny indeed as Shy Girl seeking love this one woman show set in her New York apartment, which she shares with a friend, is not really for me not being a woman. The women in the audience were hysterical at what she had to say about her sex life with Pino, a fellow server in a New York restaurant – what he did with his fingers and where they went was quite amazing as was the fact that he was a man quite unworthy of her lust – and at her sessions with her analyst trying to cure her shyness. The men in it were less so inclined. However there is no denying Renner is gifted performer and held her audience entranced although that New York accent is a little challenging at times for the British ear – a little more care with her enunciation would be a good idea - and maybe she could have made more use of the members of the audience invited to sit at her kitchen table than she actually does, although that might vary depending on who accepts. Wyld Woman, by the way, is the name for a group Shy Girl finds on the internet and joins. As to what it is all about and why there are pink balloons festooning her kitchen no spoilers. It is, however, all about virgins, vegans and vaginas which is surely enough for you to know when deciding whether or not to go.
