Sparkling festive fare on the menu at the Playhouse yet again.
There is great excitement in our house as the panto season approaches and we have not been disappointed yet. This year is no exception as the Playhouse sticks to its winning formula; sumptuous sets, dazzling costumes and huge fun for all the family.

Without wishing to sound too much like an advert, these annual Nottingham Playhouse treats are a must-see, particularly for children – they have certainly gone a long way to inspire a love of theatre in my own children.

Many of the jokes are now familiar to the ‘regulars’ in the audience and some do not hesitate in delivering the punch line before the cast can manage it! It all serves to add to the relationship and repartee the cast has with the audience. They manage quite ably to make us all believe that each and every one of us who has been before is remembered and welcomed back personally.

Jeffrey Longmore, as the ugly sister Donna, is supported this year by another regular who has stepped seamlessly into the role of dame, John Elkington. Together they are a wonderful double act – taking it in turns to deliver rapid retorts to the hecklers, the loudest of whom was about ten years old!

We are treated to endless encores of the big musical numbers, another regular feature here in Nottingham. Some of the new cast members looked on in amazement as the audience continued to shout for more whenever the band struck up. Moving away from the principal boy, this year we are treated to the chiseled good looks of Giles Alderson as Prince Charming ably assisted by Nathan Dowling as Dandini - who is clearly enjoying himself as much as we are!

Each year the sets and costumes continue to surpass the previous year, and this continues with Terry Parsons presenting the most sumptuous yet. Kenneth Alan Taylor and the team at Nottingham Playhouse have done it again and long may they continue to keep this very best of Christmas traditions alive!
