SOUND THEATRE TO SEE LIGHT OF DAY.

June sees a new theatre space opening in London's West End.Some big names are at work on SOUND THEATRE, to open on 21 June in Wardour Street, off Leicester Square.

The idea's to bring energy, innovation and intimacy to central London with a 200-seat theatre, its performance space suited to the small-scale, fast-moving, high-energy productions coming out of companies fringing a traditional theatreland filled with playhouses built on a 19th century model and scale.

Sound's first season opens with The Laramie Project, the professional premiere of a remarkable youth-theatre piece about the murder of a gay student - Moises Kaufman and Tectonic Theater Project developed their doc-drama out of hours of interviews.

Future opening season shows include the sweet boulevard sentiment of Terrence McNally's Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune and the gods-defying toughness of Greek tragedian Aeschylus' Prometheus Bound. So, just about anything will go.

There'll also be transfers from the ring of dramatic fire fringing London's West End, workshops, readings etc - the idea's to have an open-all-day ambience, followed by half the night with late cabaret and comedy.

With the likes of Robin Soans, Mark Rosenblatt, Bruno Poet and Gregory Clarke signed up as writer, director, lighting and sound there's bound to be an excitement about this new venture.

Opening prices for the main shows are set at £15 max - under half most West End, pillar-free non-telescopic view costs. The programme now announced is:
