Not slick or polished enough.
Cinderella losing her high heeled shoe and leaving a glass one, keen to clean Snow White dressed in the red high heeled shoes, Mother Hubbard old, walking on tip toe as if on heels and Lady Macbeth in high black patent platforms. Yes there is a symbol in this show - high heels and how they hobble us visibly, along side the less visible hobbling some women go in for.

Skye Lonergan’s disappointing piece tries to link together several fictitious female icons. There’s a modern lawyer with her children, her cases and her tight skirt, Lady M her children are always trying to get her attention. Each one seems trammelled, except Pippa Longstocking the only one sensibly shod.

Loneragan expends a lot of energy in her one woman piece but it never comes together as a whole, it’s just not slick or polished enough. There’s enough material for a short ten minute skit perhaps, if she could create characters we could distinguish without the costume and shoe changes and tighten up her moves.

But frankly looking at the many flat heeled women in the street, theatres and bars the rest of the day in charge of their lives, their children, their drink and their feet it’s clear women are striding away from heels and what they symbolise in droves already.
