Worcester Swan likely to close

Worcester Swan theatre is very likely to have to close after a shock announcement by City Council Leader Stephen Inman. He has announced he intends to cut £83k from the Council's support for the theatre. According to Jenny Stephens, Swan's artistic director, 'This will certainly mean the end of professionally produced work.'
Inman admits that the drastic cut will probably mean the end of the theatre but is still determined to go ahead. The Council has recently discovered a big hole in its own finances a deficit of £400k. Can't they count in the Town Hall?

Stephens went on to list the work the theatre has been supporting in addition to the professional productions: 'new writing, amateur productions and all the exciting education, youth and community initiatives.'
