WORN-OUT WAREHOUSE WON'T STOP SHOWS.

For years, the Warehouse Theatre in East Croydon has provided a programme of new plays, imports (including the first British stage sighting of Cate Blanchett in a play about dog-sitting) and valuable new playwriting initiatives. Now it is to close. The building's fabric has been deteriorating for several years and renovations would be uneconomic. Ironically, the last performance, on 23 February, will be the end of a three week extension by popular demand of the latest in the Warehouse Christmas series: it's Dick Barton Episode IV - The Flight of the Phoenix

However, artistic director Ted Craig is adamant the Warehouse operation will continue. Plans are evolving forWarehouse shows to pop up elsewhere in Croydon and beyond.

Theatre4Kidz shows will continue as will youth group CRYPT,the writers' workshop and the International Playwriting Festival.

Watch spaces in south London for developments.
